Make You Feel My Love
by Bob Dylan • Lesson #484 • Apr 7, 2023
Description
Hey there, friends! Today we’re looking at Make You Feel My Love, the late nineties Bob Dylan song that’s since been covered by so many great musicians (Adele, Billy Joel, Neil Diamond, etc). My lesson’s main inspiration comes from Garth Brooks, whose live performance in 1999 showed an absolutely beautiful way to play it using the Key of D chord family. In my main lesson, I’ll teach you how to strum it in that key — which avoids barre chords altogether. In my extended video lessons (linked below) I’ll show some other ways to play it — including a fingerstyle arrangement, as well as tackling the vocal melody (tab included). Have fun, this one is a blast to play!

Backing Track (Key of D)
If you’re looking for some practice help, give this backing track a try! Whether you’re working on strumming, chord changes, or lead guitar — this can be incredibly helpful to play along with.
This backing track plays the verse progression twice:
| D | A | C | G |
| Gm | D | E7 A7 | G |
Then, it plays the chorus progression once:
| G | D | F#7 G | D |
| G | D | E7 | A7 |
From there, things repeat — over and over, exactly as noted above — for just about 7 minutes. This makes for a great bite-sized practice companion. If you mess something up, you can just jump back in at any point — and can rest assured you’ll have another chance shortly to try again. Enjoy!
