Practice With Me! G Major Arpeggios in Each CAGED Shape

Lesson #514 • Sep 1, 2023

Hey there, friends! Trying something new today, where I want to show a bit of real-time practice as I work my way through G major arpeggios in each of the CAGED shapes. This is a warm-up exercise I’ve been using here & there for the past couple months, and I thought it might be helpful to show the entire process in real time.

I’ll quickly explain what arpeggios are, how they relate to the major scale, and show my preferred way to practice each individual shape (using a “bounce” technique I demonstrate). I’ll end things by running the gauntlet – where I go through each shape, up and down the fretboard, with a drum track to keep tempo (72bpm).

I hope you enjoy! Timestamps below, as well as some related lessons if you need a refresh on the CAGED shapes, scale positions, or anything else related to this topic. Let’s go!

  • 0:00 Overview
  • 1:39 Arpeggios 101
  • 5:39 Practicing Each Shape
  • 19:45 Practicing All Shapes Together (with drum track)
  • 25:08 Final Advice & Farewell
