In this area of my website you’ll find all my existing lessons teaching walk-ups & walk-downs. This is a broad technique where a descending (or ascending) melody is played to “connect” chords, often by means of consecutive bass notes. You’ll often find this in the country, folk, blues, and rock genres — and it can be used to incredible affect.
My existing lessons teaching this topic can be found via the navigation on this page — where you’ll find things roughly grouped by category. Each lesson page includes a “main” tutorial, and usually a print-friendly PDF download. Some lessons include extra videos showing practice exercises, etc.
Premium members of Song Notes (here on this website) get access to all the print-friendly PDF guides I’ve made to accompany these lessons. These PDFs are hand-made by me with utmost care. They show explanations, diagrams, and exercises to help you master the techniques shown in each lesson.
These PDFs can be downloaded, printed, and saved forever — even if you should cancel membership. Premium members also unlock all my other instructional PDFs (note, this does not include licensed song sheets).
Please consider joining Song Notes Premium if you’re not already a member — it directly supports my efforts to build, maintain, and constantly improve the website you’re reading (which is 100% created by me).

Over the next few months I plan to add to this existing set of lessons, as well as re-do some of my older videos. My goal is to ensure the topic is thoroughly communicated in a step-by-step manner.
I’ll get there bit by bit — but if there are any specific questions or requests you have on this general topic, please let me know! I’m always grateful to learn what my audience is looking for in my future lessons. You can contact me via email by clicking the button below:
