In this week’s lesson, I’ll teach you a 3-part fingerstyle arrangement (using Travis Picking) inspired by songs like Long Black Veil, Pancho & Lefty, Just Breathe, and several other fingerpicking tunes. For each of the 3 parts I teach, I’ll show you two simplified version and the “full” (most advanced) version — allowing you to jump in wherever your skill level allows, and ramp things up accordingly. At the end of the day, the 3 sequences you’ll learn can be combined together and played one-after-another – which I believe you’ll have a blast playing. Let’s get to it!
Gives an overview of Travis Picking before diving into part #1 of the overall sequence (including a simplified and “full” version).
Requires membership to Song Notes Premium. Teaches parts #2 and #3 of the overall sequence. For both, I’ll show you a simplified way to play it as well as the “full” version I teased in my free video lesson. Once you learn all three parts, you can play them all in succession, one-after-the-other. Makes for great fun!
Here’s some of the previous lessons I’ve made on the topic of Travis Picking. This is a technique I only got comfortable with a few years ago — and before then, it seemed impossible. If you’re interested in learning to play like this, don’t give up! It’s such a satisfying way to play and unlocks many doors.
