Fingerstyle First Steps — Start Here!

Where to get started with fingerstyle?

Quite often I’ll hear from folks who love my lessons, want to dive further into fingerstyle, and are curious where to begin. This is something I’ve never really had a great answer for, at least within my own library of lessons. Fortunately, I’m on the verge of finally changing that with a new batch of lessons.

They’re not ready yet — but look out for them soon. Here’s what I want to cover in this upcoming batch:

  • Getting Comfortable Without a Pick
  • Adjusting Chord Shapes for Fingerstyle
  • Fingerpicking Patterns, Explained
  • Fingerpicking with an Anchored Pinky
  • Developing Finger Independence
  • Fingerpicking & Bass Notes
  • Fingerpicking & Melody
  • Tips for Reading Fingerstyle Tabs
  • Fingerstyle Songs for Beginners

Look for them soon!

As I say in the video above, this page (and this entire section of my website) is a preview of intro-to-fingerstyle lessons I’ll be adding quite soon. It’s also a promise — one that I intend on keeping.

I do realize there are some topics & courses I’ve stated are “coming soon” in the past — e.g. blues lead guitar stuff. And to be honest, it bums me out when I bite off more than I can chew, or commit to teaching topics that I haven’t properly learned myself yet. Blues guitar being one example.

But with fingerstyle, I feel quite confident from my many lessons that I am more than ready (experience-wise) to put together some really good lessons. So, stay tuned… and in the meantime, check out all the fingerstyle lessons in this section of the website! With this new design they’ve never been so easy to explore.
