In today’s lesson I’ll answer an audience question about fingerpicking (using Travis style) in 3/4 time. Steve wrote in asking about Paradise by John Prine, and how to go about playing it fingerstyle, given its waltz rhythm. In my video lesson, I give my answer – and also show how you can use these same techniques to play Amazing Grace using fingerstyle - the tabs for which are included in my 6-page practice sheet (PDF) for this lesson.
In this second part of the main tutorial, I’ll show how these concepts can be used to learn Amazing Grace (Key of C). I’ll show you a simple way to play it (0:26) and then show an arrangement where the vocal melody is played with the thinnest few strings on the guitar (2:54).
