Improvements to My List of Song Lessons

Quick Summary

For the last few years, about 50-60 of my song-based lessons haven’t shown up on any of my “Song” pages in my website navigation. Good news… I finally fixed this! All these harder-to-find songs are included when browsing all my songs. I also made some quality-of-life updates to the song list designs (e.g. showing artist name after each song, when viewing alphabetically).

Longer Explanation

For the last few years, many of my song-based lessons did not show up in my list of songs. This is due to decisions I made when building my website, regarding how lessons were tagged / categorized / etc. Information architecture stuff I assumed back then bit me in the butt 5 years later. It happens.

This wasn’t a huge problem, to be honest. You could still view all these harder-to-find lessons. They had dedicated webpages on my website, they showed up if you searched, I linked to them from YouTube, etc.

But they did not appear if you clicked on “Songs” in my website navigation and browsed any of the sub-pages there.

Finally, this past week, I decided to do something about it.

I went through all my lessons, and found all the ones where this was the case. I added a few tags (to each lesson’s metadata) under the hood. I made some changes to the code on song listing pages to look for these new tags… and long story short, all the previously-missing songs are now included everywhere within the “Songs” area of my website.

This means 50-60 songs that were difficult to find before are easier to find now. That’s good for me and for you. I also made some tweaks to a few designs on my song list pages, which I think improves the browsing experience.

All the lessons I added can be grouped into four categories. You can click these links to jump to that section of this page.
